The weekly
The footer form asks for an email and a box you have to tick. The box is consent to receive marketing email from the desk, including one issue a week. It is not ticked for you. We store the address, the fact that you agreed, and the time. We do not sell or rent the list. To leave it, email desk@torontostartups.com and we will take the address off.
Filings
A listing, transfer, or talk asks for a contact name and email, plus what you want printed. The email stays with the desk. It is not put on the public page. We use it to ask a question or to say a filing ran or did not. Approved copy is public until the desk closes it.
Interviews
The questions page is sent by the desk. It collects the answers, a logo if you give one, and an email. Nothing is posted unless you tick the box agreeing that we may edit the answers and put the interview on the site and in the weekly. The email and the “do not print” box are not published. You can ask us to take the page down.
What the browser sends
The site loads Google Analytics to count visits. Google may set a cookie and receive your IP address and the page you opened. We do not run a login for readers. We do not ask for payment details on the site. Ad bookings are handled by email.
How long, and who else
We keep a filing, an interview, or a subscriber address while it is useful to the paper, and delete it when you ask or when we no longer need it. Hosting is on Vercel. The database is Postgres. Those companies process the data so the site can run. We do not send the list to advertisers as a file of names.
